Default Sienna 2004 Audiovox overhead VOD916 installation

Hi,

Does anybody knows how to use the current wiring from the overhead radio
that comes on the sienna's 2004 LE , to connect the Audiovox DVD+LCD unit
VOD916 ? Or should I need to remove the headliner and do new wiring ? Is
there a manual online to do this installation ? I bought the Audiobox
overhead console PN 1187097PL and the insert 1187077 in order to replace the
current radio that comes on the overhead console.

If I take all this to best buy to install it in case I can't Do you recomend
this ?

Thanks!

Thanks

Corrlens, Hey, have you looked in the Audiovox package, they usually

have pretty good instructions. I do a few of their videos, but never
the one you have. Please don't let Best Buy work on your car, find an
independent shop in your area. Also, Audiovox has good tech support by
phone for simple questions. Good luck, Steve

Steve,
I have the same car and want to do the same thing. From what I've
read about the VOD916, my guess is all you need is (+)power and a
ground(-) right?
I'm not sure what voltages they ran to the rear audio system but one
concern is the amp rating of the power lead ( if there's one present
). Have you installed the unit yet? Please let me know the details as
I'm thinking about doing this myself.

Thanks

Mark

You can also send me mail at mguthrie(at)cox(dot)net ( you'll need to
replace the @ and the . part --- I hate spammers that grab e-mails
from these newsgroups)

Default Sienna 2004 Audiovox overhead VOD916 installation

I just completed a VOD916 install utilizing the AudioVox custom console in
our 2004 Sienna LE.
You cannot tap into the Rear Seat Audio (RSA) connection to the Toyota A/V
bus. You will need
to run three wires (12 volt + battery, 12 volt + ignition, and 12 volt -)
from the overhead console, to
the passenger side A pillar, down the A pillar (avoid the Curtain Airbag if
equipped) and then find
a suitable connection within the console (I tied mine into the factory radio
loom).

Be sure to run the cable for the RF modulator at the same time as you run
the power wires. I also ran
a set of RCA cables from the VOD916 to the factory head unit in the event
someone comes up with
a AUX input adapter for the 2004 Sienna.

The AudioVox supplied instructions are correct with respect to tying into
the factory door lighting. It
worked like a charm for me.

You are welcome to email me at james.delancey(at)verizon_dot_net with any
questions (replace at with @,
_dot_ with a period).

Jim DeLancey

IMPORTANT NOTE: DISCONNECT BATTERY AND WAIT AT LEAST 5 MINUTES BEFORE
COMING
ANYWHERE NEAR THE SRS SYSTEMS WITHIN THE SIENNA. DEPENDING ON THE MODEL,
THE
AIRBAGS CAN BE IN THE STEERING WHEEL, BOTH FRONT SEATS AND THE SIDE WINDOWS.
