Default Genesis amp running super hot!

Got three genesis series amps in a rack and after a listen say 10mins the
amps get pretty hot. Gains on amps are not on max but say 60-70% max so is
this normal?

I tried to add a fan using the fan terminal but I get really BAD feedback
through the speakers! Is there any way to add the fan with something that
will block out the fan noise from the speakers? The fan is grounded on the
amp as stated in the manual.

Thanks!

Jim

Depends on what you're driving with the amps and how loud you listen.

Hi MZ

Thanks for your reply.

I run MB Quart both front and rear which are 6.5" and 5". the dual mono is
bridged (I know its hotter this way) that just runs a JL 10WO but soon to
run my new idq2.

The fan has been grounded to the car frame and amp, both still produce the
same problem? Any ideas how I can rid this annoying problem of mine such as
adding something to the fan or whatever?

Many thanks MZ

It's common to have some fans produce noise like that. Usually, the best
solution is to just buy a brushless fan (though sometimes they'll still give
you noise). You could also try putting a small capacitor across its
terminals. But you shouldn't need a fan. So you need to address the heat
issue first. Does it get that hot even after listening at moderate volumes?
Are they shutting down?

Well we will need more information:

What impedance are you driving with each amp?
How loud are you listening to the system?
How much space is around each amplifier?
Is this "rack" fully enclosed?
Whay are you gains turned up so high? (Running the gains up above about 1/3 does many times make the amplifier run hotter than normal, and if your system is properly designed, you should not have to set up the gain structure of the system where it needs more gain at the amplifier input than that)

Thanks for the reply MZ.

They only get warm if its played at moderate levels and they have yet to
shut down in all this time. I think these amps were designed to run hot
otherwise why would they have a fan terminal built in?

Thanks
