HI, I purchased a Denon 1602 A/V receiver last April, and I have been
less than satisfied with the sound quality in this unit. I have adjusted every setting that I can find, save for turning off the bass altogether, in this unit. I am not getting the crystal clear highs I have been expecting. The highs are there but they "roll off" extremely quickly. I don't even bother with the Tonal Defeat, as it is like listening to music with a wool sweater over my speakers. My setup is as follows: Denon 1602 Receiver Sony DVP-NS325 DVD player also used for audio. Athena speaker setup all around using AS-B2's for fronts AS-C1 for center AS-B1's for rears ASP-300 for Subwoofer All speakers connected with 14 guage speaker wire, and High quality digital coax connection from DVD to Receiver. Surely with this as my setup, I should be getting a better performance than I am experiencing. I am likely going back to the dealer to get them to send this unit back to Denon, as I believe it is a case of faulty workmanship in this one particular unit. I auditioned the 1604 which is close to the same unit at the store (using the same DVD player and Speakers that I own)and the sound quality was the difference between day and night.) If there is a hidden switch on this unit that I don't know about that will clear this system up to be more bright, please let me know... I would feel foolish to return a unit because of something I have overlooked. |

hi george
sounds like the unit maybe not 100%...if your sure the speakers are conected properly ...then there is very little else to change (or would make the sound so BLAND) ...maybe a trip to dealer with unit and get them to test it while your there would be the best advice let us know how you get on best wishes j7 www.audioorigami.co.uk |

Thanks for the response. I am aiming to take it in to a Denon
distributer soon when I have the time from work. One thing I have noticed, is that my Sony Playstation 2 sounds a lot better for music than my Sony DVD player, one is hooked up through coax (DVD) and the other hooked up through optical (PS2). Both type of hookups should give similar quality sound, all things being equal. Maybe it is my DVD after all.... |
