Default Mr. Boyk's New Recording

I'm taking the liberty of posting the following under the idea Mr.
Boyk won't mind. I find his comments on Cds congruent with reality,
unlike those of the Motor City Madman, Kroo.

JAMES BOYK, Pianist in Concert --- TONALITIES OF EMOTION
Beloved piano works in an order that heightens the mood of each.

Bach Chromatic Fantasy & Fugue, BWV 903
Chopin Fantasy-Impromptu, Op. 66
Debussy Reflets dans l'Eau
Mozart Sonata in A Minor, K. 310

SACD/CD Hybrid --- Performance Recordings(R) pr10

James Boyk performer, engineer, producer.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

My first album in 14 years will be released in February, 2005. During
this time, I've been performing and growing as an artist, and have
written three little books for musicians. However, I'm very happy to be

releasing this concert recording, for which I was also the engineer and

producer. (It's not easy to add these duties to practice and warming up

on concert day!) "Tonalities of Emotion" marks some "firsts" for me,
including--

First program I've put together where the order actually heightens the
legitimate feeling of each work.

First I've done with Boesendorfer piano ("Imperial" concert grand).
Where has it been all my life?

First using my custom Performance Recordings microphone preamp.
(Sheffield Lab used this preamp for their "Passions" album, but I
haven't made a release with it before. It was designed by my friend
Peter Sutheim and modified somewhat by me for use with my particular
mikes.)

First SACD (Super-Audio CD). The technically up-to-date among you
will know that these hybrid discs play fine as regular CDs, too. I
confess to some pride in being one of the very small number of people
doing high-quality engineering and production who has never ever said
that CDs were OK. It appears that the industry is coming around to
this point of view, with the appearance of two digital media superior
to
regular CD. (The other one is DVD-Audio.) On this particular recording,

you can hear the superiority of SACD over regular CD very easily by
just
playing the disc both ways).

For more info, including how to order, see
http://www.performancerecordings.com . (The books are listed there,
too.)

Thanks for your time and attention.

I hope you enjoy it!

Yours,

jb

James Boyk

incredibly lifelike." -Stereo Review

rank his 'Pictures at an Exhibition' among our reference recordings."

"The interpretation is worthy of the extraordinary care that has gone
into making this record, and the result is something to cherish."
-The
Washington Post

"Perhaps the most distinguished interpretation I've heard...The feeling

of 'coming close to the vision of the composer' is strongly present."

"Critic's Choice"-High Fidelity

"Desert-Island Disc" -The Absolute Sound

"Almost incredible fidelity...even more impressive is the integrity of
the performance." -High Fidelity
