Default Rode NT1 vs. NT1a

I would like to be aware of the sonic difference between these two
microphones, I know that the NT1A has lower self noise vis a vis the
NT1. I had recently ordred for the NT1a but ended with the NT1 in the
mail. Im sure the dealer did not do this on purpose. He was
illinformed, as most out here are. He will replace, but does it matter
?

Thanks a ton

I think the retailer may have been trying to unload old (and increasingly
difficult-to-sell) stock. The NT1 has been out of production for some time
now.

An NT1a is significantly better than an NT1 in sound quality IMO. However,
what Ty suggests is a great idea if you can afford it - the new capsule is
*reallly* nice.

There are very few runts in Rode's product line, past and present, but the
NT1 and NT1A are among them. While the NT2 wouldn't normally make that
list, the NT2A is too substantial an improvement for the same money.

You should also know that the NT1000 goes for around $225 on eBay, new from
dealers with warranty. I recommend that if you're unwilling to buck up for
an NT2A.

Cant afford the NT2. the NT1 cost me 280USD here. what I can d is send
it back for the Studio Projects B1, when it's in stock. Ive been told
the B1 is a better option.

Im pretty sure it was not so. You have to see to believe the sheer
ignorance that most dealers live with around here. No one here
mantains stocks. 90% of all purchases are delivered after a preorder
haas been placed. the market is small.

most ebay posters ill not ship to India. and then I have no gaurantees.
Besides this mic was purchased in an emergency. I did not have time to
wait for a fortnight.

thank you all for your suggestions. While I am unable to shell out a
penny more, I would appreciate your opinion on as to get this exchanged
for the NT1A or the Studio Projects B1.

thank you.

I haven't used the B1, but I prefer the NT1A to the C1. I understand

the B1
is a lesser model than the C1, and they both use chinese-made

diaphrams,
while the shortcomings of the NT1A certainly aren't due to the

diaphram,
which is the same as the NT1000 and NTK.

I should clarify that I only consider the NT1 and NT1A runts because

they
are overpriced compared to better Rode mics. I still put them ahead

of the
chinese mics (Studio Projects, ADK, Apex, MXL, etc), some of which

cost
more.

Thats intreasting news. Espesially since almost everyone has for a
while been raving the C1. Ill stick to getting the NT1a.
thanks

Now compare the size of the land masses upon which those different pops
hang. It's a different picture.
