First time poster on r.a.o.

As an experiment, I swapped my Cambridge Audio D300SE CD player for my
Cambridge Audio DVD53. The sound difference was significant! Although I am
no expert on describing sound, there seems to be much fuller bass and the
higher frequencies have a far greater clarity.

What is the current opinion on using a DVD player as part of a hi-fi setup ?
Could it be the 5.1 processor enhancing the sound ?

Probable cause: one is louder than the other.

Multichannel would be a big difference! The DAC might be better that in
the D300, but it could also be the DVD player has a higher output level.
According to the website, both players have "24 bit" DACs (not that that
is important as such).

In general, cheap DVD players sound bad as cd players. My Pioneer 563 is
good for video and hi-rez (SACD or DVD-A) but not so good on cd.
However, this has nothing to do with you and your system. If it sounds
good to you, enjoy!
