OK. Stupid question but I'm gonna ask anyway. I want to flightcase my
Fireface along with a midi interface and a Presonus Central Station.
All of them take are 1U. Can I use a 3U SKB shallow rack case? Is it
enought to leave the back off or do I have to devote 1U to a vent for
proper airflow? Any help appreciated.

RTFM. Do any of the manuals recommend leaving air space above or below
any of those units? If not, don't worry about it. If so, you probably
should do it. I doubt there's much to get hot in any of those units -
no tubes, no incandescent lamps, no displays, no heavy processing
power, no memory.
