Has anyone here ever been in charge of or involved in sound/recording of a
t.v. awards show - Oscars, Emmys, etc.? It's always struck me that there's something unique about the sound of the orchestra, that it's ultra "sparkly" or the like, even through a Plain Jane t.v. speaker. I'm a trumpet player, and it seems that a big part of it is the lead trumpet sound. Even compared to say the sound of the Johnny Carson era Tonight Show band, though they clearly had superb sound and I assume top-notch gear, there's just a different kind of presence, though both had/have live bands. An example of a t.v. show that did have that same sound that I'm referring to was The Carol Burnett theme. Am I full of it or is there something different about the way it's done besides just the arrangements and instrumentation used? |
