Default ProTools 002 - input 7/8 dropout...?

Today I was working with a fellow's PT LE on an 002 rack. All the s/w seems
configured right, and for a test we were recording from a Tascam 122 cassette
into the RCA-jack inputs 7/8.

On the front of the 002 rack is a button that enables the 7/8 RCA inputs, and
when we started the session and started recording, the tape would roll a while
and then the 7/8 button, and inputs, would drop out, leaving no signal to the
software.

Anybody know why this is? Is this common? Is there a fix? Do we have a bad
unit? What have I overlooked?

Thanks,

I had a problem with my 002r where it would just shut off on its own.
Eventually it wouldn't start at all.

I emailed digidesign and they said it was probably the wiring harness. I'm
guessing it's a common problem, as they sent me the wiring harness along
with a very nice pre-printed instruction pamphlet on how to change it.

The booklet mentioned something about buttons on the front not working
right -- it could be your problem is related.

I'd contact them. They're pretty good.

What does "the 7/8 button would drop out" mean? Surely not that the button
falls out of the panel and on to the floor. That would indeed
be abmormal.

LOL!! Now THAT's comedy!

Is there a light that goes on to indicate that those inputs are active and
that light goes off along with the loss of signal?

Yes, that's it.

Does the problem occur even when you're not recording? Can you isolate the
interface from the computer so you can be sure the computer (route
those inputs to an output you can monitor and turn off the computer)?

Yes, done, thanks.

Can you get another unit from your dealer to try?

Perhaps.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks, Stu!

The power harness problem is covered in a thread in the Digi User Conference,
but nobody had the solution you got. Cool.

I had to replace the wiring harness on my 002 as well.
