Does anyone know of a standalone CD recorder that will use ordinary CDRs
rather than the more expensive Audio CDRs.

It is for recording my own stuff so I dont want to pay the additional
(copyright) tax that is included in the price of audio CDRs.

All of the professional ones do. The HHB 830 is a popular unit and I have
used the old HHB 800 and been very happy with it. Marantz also makes some
popular boxes.

What's the difference between the HHB830 and the 830 Plus?

I'd put in my vote for the Sony CDR-W33, which is very reliable and
well-designed. Another good one is the Tascam CD-RW402, a double-deck that
will copy CDs and CD-ROMs at up to 4X.

Either can use standard computer CD-R blanks, and sounds pretty decent. I
believe both were recently discontinued, but are still widely available from
many dealers (and eBay).

The TASCAM CDRW-750 use ordinary CDRs.
An extra feature is the ability to mix the SPDIF or optic input with
the analog input.
