Charles Ives was an early 20th century American composer who often had several largely if not completely unrelated themes going simultaneously. One piece involves recreating the sense of several marching bands approaching a town square from opposite directions, playing unrelated tunes, meeting & passing by one another. There used to be this place called Christiania, sort of like a free state within the city of Copenhagen, that used to have kiosks where {really good} marijuana was sold openly but not totally legally.
