Hi everyone,
I've got a small PA system that I've owned for a few years, and have used as at my solo shows in the pubs and bars for the past 4-5 years. While it's all I'll ever need, I have been lately strugging with the sound since someone messed with the mixer settings to their 'liking'. I'm by no means a sound person, just a performer. I'd really like to get a clean and warm sound from the mains and my monitor. Here's my gear: Yorkville MP8Dx powered mixer 2xPeavey TLS-1 speakers (150W) Shure SM-58 mic (I sometimes use my Audio Technica HE-141) I use an old Peavey Studio Pro guitar amp as a powered monitor, and I'm really only performing with an acoustic guitar, mandolin, harmonica and voice. I play mostly small and medium sized pubs and bars, and don't go too loud (or quiet). I don't have a powerful voice, so I really need to compensate on my vocal channel somehow and make the best of it. At my last gig, the bartender quickly helped me out by basically turning the mid-ranges completely down. This left the low-ranges at about 40% and the upper-range band at around 60%. It REALLY cleaned up the sound, but I thought I'd get some good input here. If anyone's not familiar with this powered mixer, it's got a 2 amps (400w + 200w). It's got an EQ for both amps, and each channel has gain, effects, 3-band eq. Any help is appreciated, and please let me know if I need to be more specific. Thanks! Ken |
