Because they were encoded poorly. Especially ones downloaded from kazaa. Is there a way to fix this? Buy the cd and encode them properly. |

Especially ones downloaded from kazaa. Is there a way to fix this? Back in 1997, when Napster was a baby, there was a program that could fix it, but I forgot what it is called. Buy the cd and encode them properly. |

![]() Why does some mp3's make loud noises during the song. Because they are MP3's. I have never had any problems with any of my several thousand mp3's downloaded from newsgroups. Loud noises like milliseconds of pure static or pops are caused by someone with a computer that had a noisy CD-ROM, slow hardware (CPU's buffer overrun) or poorly-written MP3-encoding software (early versions years ago or freewares)...I've heard such byproducts from all three scenarios...but such noises absolutely are not inherent of MP3s in of themselves...that's sort of an ignorant remark. MP3 is a lossy compression - it will *lose* data of the original PCM Wave source, but there is no reason to believe it will *add* this sort of extraneous data. |

I am talking about a lot of random tones that occur 80% of the song Haha, that's pretty darn pathetic! People just must not check their work! 80% of the song is pretty extreme - I was referring to a "click" or "pop" that may occur 10-20 times/song tops but if there is errors spanning 80% of the song the the ripper's a moron! |

Unfortunately many ISPs don't offer alt.binaries access.

I know exactly the sound your are talking about. It is present in alot
of new songs that have been recently released. These sounds are not caused by accident, or by hardware error. They are manually encoded into the file using software to frustrate people from downloading. There was an article on cnet about it a while ago. The recording industry of america intentionally puts out bogus files that are either songs that play only around 10 seconds and looped, or songs that have the extreemly annoying, harsh noise in it as a deturrent for people downloading music. They succeed in making it frustrating, but you just need to search a little deeper and you'll find the complete, real song. -- timboritus ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CarAudioForum.com - Usenet Gateway w/over one million posts online! I thought the noise (yes i know the one you mean) was due to the
copyright protection on some of the newer cds... not entirely sure how it works, except that when you transfer the mp3 it wont play right... like i said not sure on the technicalities but that always what i thought it was??! |
