Default Alarm System in 99 Grand Cherokee-Advice Needed

Hello to group;
Recently I decided to upgrade the factory alarm system/keyless entry in
my 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I am currently interested either in the
newer AutoPage 850LCD or the Viper 791XV or something along those
lines-2 way pager remote with remote start. I am wondering if I do the
install myself, if a databus module such as the JDL-PK for Jeeps would
simplify things. It appears that module interfaces through the ECM
databus through a single wire-but I'm not sure how the alarm interfaces
to everything else. I assume starter kill still works independently-ie.
through the relay interfaced into the starter wire like most starter
kills. I'm thinking of buying the stuff through ebay rather than a
local installer-150 bucks vs. about 600 bucks is too huge a difference
to go to a 'professional.' I know the systems can be installed with
1N4001 diodes and a resistor or two, but the databus route sounds more
"convenient."
Anyone done such an install in one of the newer Jeeps? The 99-2004
should all be mostly the same, as well as the same model year regular
Cherokees. Any help is appreciated, also if anyone has access to a color
code diagram that would be helpful also (I purchased one through ebay
for $5 but it's kinda rudimentary). TIA,

Marc L
