Default Bass DI: recommendations...

hi all
I need to get a bass DI. I love using my Peavy VMP-2 for DI, but i'll
be tracking bass and drums together for my next gig and i'll need the
VMP-2 for kick and snare. So...
Please recommend something for me based on the following:
- musicman sterling 4-string
- rock/funk type stuff, think 1 part phish, 1 part red hot chili
peppers. Sort of a jam-band but the bassist does lots of slapping,
and likes lots of high end in the bass (the metal strings on metal
frets sound)
- have about $150 or so
- I'll just be using the DI signal and not micing his cabinet to avoid
bleed between the bass and drums.
- normally i would build something but time does not permit this, so
it will have to be availalbe as Ass Center or something.
Based on what I've read, seems like countryman is the way to go here.
I was also looking at the BBE, the MXR, and I think Tech 21 makes one
also. I'm going to try to get the bassist out to audition some of
these before the date but that may not be possible.
thanks
Rich
