Hi folks.
Looks like I am not the only one in this newsgroups who is just starting with digital recording. A previous poster has drawn my attention to the Tascam 2488. In the price range ($1200), we found a few products. The handbook for the Tascam 2488 looks like this is a very powerful but easy-to-use system. A Roland VS 2000CD from the next higher price segment offers a few things more. The most important seem to be: All 8 inputs are also in XLR. The display looks bigger. Effect board for pugging in new effects is available. You could add and external screen and mouse. 4 band EQ (Does anybody know if midranges are parametric?) As the Tascam 2488 meets all our requirements at the moment, but I have no idea what other needs experience will trigger. What do you think: Is that Roland VS 2000CD worth 40% additional cost?
