The AR-2ax Speaker was probably the most popular model in the 1970's AR product
line. AR literature claims they have about 1/3 octive less bass than the AR-3a.
The speaker shares the same dome tweeter used in the AR-3a. It uses an updated
single cone midrange, far better than the problem prone dual midranges used in
the AR-2a. A 10" acoustic suspension woofer fills out the low end. AR believed
in a "flat" frequency response. This led to speakers with a natural, musical
sound. This will show up in extended listening sessions through less fatigue.

Often when buying a pair of vintage AR's they will arrive with many problems.
I'd say about 90% of classic AR's I come across need some work. After
purchasing you will have to spend the time or money to get them to sound right.
Well not with this pair. You will be able to hear the sound that AR intended as
soon as you unpack them. This pair has been fully restored. The foam surrounds
have been expertly replaced on both woofers. The L-Pads (level controls) for
both the tweeter and midrange have been disassembled. All contact points have
been refinished and cleaned with Deoxit. The georgous walnut veneer cabinets
have been retreated with Minwax Wood Finish. All corners are sharp. The real
walnut veneer wood grain is stunning. They sound very nice and full with that
nice deep non-booming bass you get with an acoustic suspension design. This is
an example of one of AR's best designs and fully capture the essence of the
"East Coast Sound".

The original drivers in this pair are in excellent shape with strong output.
The speakers are fully functional. The pots work as they should to adjust the
output of the tweeter and midrange. The beige woven fabric grills are also well
preserved - only one has a 2" tear. This pair even has the hard to find solid
brass AR Logos. Compare this pair speakers with any new product for the same
price and you will be amazed at what you get with these classic AR's. The
AR-2ax was offered from 1968-78 for $430 pair. I can offer these classics for
$249 pr. plus actual shipping and $10 packing fee. (40lbs net, 50lbs gross ea.)
