Sirs
Thank you very much for your candid and insightful additions to this thread. First, a little about me... I've been an electronics technician for 20 years, and have been selling pro audio & video gear almost as long. I have owned a 24-track recording studio, and a video production business, among others. I've directed live multi-camera broadcasts from many venues in Las Vegas, and have had my work aired on ESPN. I primarily deal in high-end broadcast equipment, and have only recently begun following this newsgroup. Admittedly, I know alot more about pro audio than consumer audio. The speakers in question are exactly as described. The foam surrounds are not "brittle" as one of you surmised, but rather "spongy and deteriorating." In fact, the large piece that is missing was caused by a slip of my hand as I was wiping a little dust from the speaker....the surround just came apart in that spot. If undisturbed, they appear to have sufficient elasticity to work at moderate volumes, but certainly need to be replaced for optimal performance. I haven't tried to "crank" them, as I don't want to damage them further. I considered the arguments put forth regarding the price, and have significantly lowered both the opening bid ($79) and the Buy It Now price ($139). I feel this is quite fair, insofar as a pair of these tweeters just sold for $61 (see Ebay item 3064597301). Thanks again for contributing your knowledge and expertise to the newsgroup. Gene |
