QUESTION: What do you think of the French decision over the weekend to
destroy the Ivorian Air Force?

MR. BOUCHER: We have condemned the attack on the Ivorian military
bombing that broke the ceasefire, led to the very tragic and unfortunate
deaths of French troops. We think that the response by the French was an
action that was necessary to protect their people from further attack
and violence.

I would note, as well, in the United Nations Security Council statement,
the Security Council expressed its full support for the action
undertaken by French forces and the UN operations in Cote d'Ivoire.

So, you know, we thought it was necessary to prevent further attacks and
violence by these airplanes.
