I have a choice between two turntables to use. The designs seem to be
polar opposites. I'm wondering which one would sound better (one requires a small investment in parts before I can a/b test them). The first is a Technics SL-Q6, circa 1982, tiny footprint, Jacket Size Linear Tracking Tonearm Player System with Precision Optical Sensor, programable, tone arm on lid. The other is an AR XA. You know the unit. Sparten in comparison. Please advise. Thanks very much. John |

Maybe should come down to your own needs. The AR is completely manual. The
Technics is automatic. Personally I think the Technics is a better design and likely the better choice for most people. Mark Z. "Your Add Here!" wrote in message om... Go for the Technics, hands down. No tracking errors, the only weight on the
stylus is the weight of the cartridge itself, and bulletproof operation. Deke "Mark D. Zacharias" wrote in message ... Maybe should come down to your own needs. The AR is completely manual. It's undoubtedly pre-adjusted anyway. Probably a T4P type P-mount.

No tracking errors, the only weight on the stylus is the weight of the cartridge itself, That would be too much tracking force. Adjust the tracking weight until the force on the stylus is correct. Probably 1 - 2 grams, which is much LESS than any cartridge weighs. TonyP. |

I've used P-mount systems in the past, but they were all adjustable for tracking force. And I've never seen a system that had tracking force equal to the cartridge weight. TonyP. |

All I meant was I've seen some Technics linear tracking models on which the
tracking force was not adjustable, since they only used one type of cartridge (T4P for example). The effective tracking force was in the 2 gram range. Mark Z. "TonyP" wrote in message u... "Mark D.
