I am planning to rebuild an AR XB turntable. I picked up a JH labs
Formula IV tone arm on ebay and I will use a Shure V15 type VMR cartridge with it. I have given thought to changing the motor to a dc type. I have an old Technics Frequency Servo belt drive turntable for a donor for the dc drive system. My thoughts on the dc drive motor are that I would gain pitch control and the possibility of 78rpm speed.I have seen ads for high end turntables with 2 motors, what is the suposed benifit of that configuration? Wouldn't 2 motors ad vibration and increase wow and flutter? Do the the 2 motor tables use ac or dc motors? I must add that my primary intrest is sound quality and reliability. Any thoughts about my ideas and questions on this prodject? |
