I know very little about computer sound, but since I have started working at
home I happened across live365.com,which has a wide variety of music. I really enjoy getting to hear a great variety of music but my computer sound is barely acceptable. Is there any resource on the internet that has a simplified summary of what is involved with computer sound? I don't even know the limits of the sound quality from live365.com. The only indication is that some stations have a note"AM 16k" and others "FM 32k". In case someone wants to give direct advice and information, here's my system: 5 year old locally built computer with Windows 98, unknown generic sound card, and high speed cable internet connection . I do have a spare stereo receiver and some nice bookshelf speakers that could be used. As I have no RCA outputs on ny sound card I would have to use the miniplug jack on the sound card as my output. Even the FM32K is running at half the bitrate of the poorest AAC and WM that is in commonly in use. So use miniplug jack on the sound card as your output with the appropriate adapter. If you want to evaluate the sound quality of your computer's sound system, download some .wav files from www.pcabx.com . |

That's probably the approximate quality. http://help.live365.com/bin/answer.p...er=123&topic=2 At a guess, "AM" and "FM" are Live365's approximations of the quality (AM radio and FM radio). It's a lot better to think of it as a really good set of radio stations, than a source for quality sound. -- Matthew Weigel the email address is real the contents of the post are not |
