Have you removed the bypass caps and/or GNFB already? Yes. I didn't have time to do it last weekend. I performed the surgery yesterday morning. I don't like the results. I *so* told you to do it the weekend before this, when some planets ( I forgot which ones, note, as I modified my ouia board into an 11 dimension chessboard) were aligned. Anyway, the next opportunity will be 25 sept. 2017, according to my Fraud and Snake Oil Almanac. Keep that in mind, note. I'll be reversing the mod during the week, when I have time. I think it's likely the output impedance is too high, so I'll probably just reconnect the feedback loop and see if things improve, leaving the decoupling caps off. Removing the caps rises the Ri of the output tubes, while the impedance of the speaker reflects back more into the amp. That's why sometimes removing the GNFB loop is helpful as well. Apparently, the Maggies are flatliners, they benefited enormously from this mod. You still have 2 other options: either reconnect the loop, or put the caps back in there and keep the loop removed. -- Sander deWaal "SOA of a KT88? Sufficient." |
