![]() "The Devil" wrote in message news:0e8hi016am4h77lahkp902t0omcr76sal4@rdmzrnewst xt.nz... Did you make the filter boxes? I did ![]() Just finished 'em last night and spent all evening listening. I think I'm still suffering from shock. Its like new speakers. I need to get re acclimated ![]() I used to think of the Quads as a little warm (especially compared to the Legacy's). But now the high end is really opened up. The chimes and bells just sing with a realism that is almost scary. My first impression worried me that this might be too much and be fatigueing but that passed. The clarity and detail is really astounding. I also think the speakers blend better and disappear completely. I found myself pulling album after album wondering what's this gonna be like. Some bad recordings are even worse, but the good ones are amazing. I was listening to Harvest and had to wonder how a sucky muddy recording like Out on a Weekend could be on the same side as a great song like A Man Needs a Maid? Anyway, my parents are visiting for a week so I have to pack 'em away, my listening room is also the guest suite ![]() Did come across a couple things in the rework. One of the speakers (that I always felt the sound stage shifted to that side which I thought was due to a lower ceiling height on that side) had the resistor body shattered into 3 pieces. Thing completely fell apart when I removed it. I ended up replacing the resistors as well. There were 2 caps in each speaker. A 220 uf electrolytic and an 8 uf from Rel-Cap. PPMFE series (plastic cube body potted). I can't find that cap on their site but I'd guess its a metalized poly. I was wondering why not put this network on the front end of the amp so we don't have to use power resistors and high voltage caps? ScottW |
