Default Question to Devil

Have you ever heard of a prof. Hawksford from Essex Univ.?
He seems to be regarded *the* supreme audio prof by some people.
I'm told that "PIP" Owen Jones and "LFD" Richard Bews owe him much.

He wrote a highly technical article about cables for Audiophile that refuted
the Krueger-licking know-nothings.

If you really mean Krueger-licking, and not Krueger-kicking, then it would
appear that Professor Hawksford is a man who has conducted some significant
research, and has reported it an honest way with integrity and distinction.

For the last three years I've owned an LFD Mistral integrated amp, a SS amp
which performed way beyond what its modest price would indicate. This amp was
designed by both Omar Hawksford and Richard Bews.

Yes! Very clever fellow indeed. IIRC, he was quite influenced by Peter
Walker.

OK. Thanks TD, Bruce, Marc and Robert.
I have some reading to do again!

Nope, but though my French is lacking, this title I liked:
"Tongue Dance" :-)

I recognise his name from a series of articles in the 80's that proved
quite controversial... "The Essex Chronicles" (or something like that)
involving some of the most hardcore analysis of cables seen to date.
The mathematics were universally accepted (even if all the conclusions
weren't), he's clearly a learned fellow. If I recall correctly he
recommended using thin solid core as it pushes skin effect out of the
audible spectrum.

I'm having fun reading some of his material current mirrors,
folded cascode stages and more.
This guy knows what he's doing, it seems.
Also, references from his articles lead me to other very interesting
audio articles.

John Curl's "Vendetta", for instance. Old, but still nice stuff !

Indeed...it is a classic. From what I understand, John Curl still makes them
on the side in limited numbers, but with significant improvements worked in
over the years.

I think you may have to know the man personally, however, to get one. When it
comes to phono preamps, however, I think Tom Evans is the man to know...

Your idea of fun is different to mine :-)

This guy knows what he's doing, it seems.

Yes, and he's a bit of a dude too. Likes to hang out in Marrakesh and
Nepal... probably.

Although you don't *have* to know Tom Evans to get one of his Groove
preamps.. ;-)

I'm currently considering one. They are quite nice.
