Default Is it wise to ground the Head unit to where the amps are grounded?

I have been told by some that this is true and some that this is not.

Will this help Alternator whine?

Thanks,
paul

I've never grounded the HU to anything other than a solid, bare metal
grounding point behind the dash or near the center console. If the rest of
the system is properly grounded, cables properly routed, etc, then you
shouldn't have any probs. Whether or not grounding the HU to the same point
as the amps would solve any whine problems, I am uncertain, but I would tend
to say no.

I tihnk it is supposed to prevent ground loop problems... switch
pops/clicks and dimmer rheostat noises... I think.

It really depends on your car and the install, trial and error. In
theory it shouldnt matter, and For my accord it doesn't matter but your
install may be different.

This is usually not a great idea nor is it appropriate for most
source/amp combos these days. Do a search of the newsgroup and you'll
find some much better suggestions for proper grounding.
