powered sub emits droning sound when plugged into wall receptical - help
Hello Group!
I've got an Infinity powered sub that accompanied a system I recently purchased from a buddy. It is a BU120 (120v/60Hz/200w). I was awoken one early morning by a loud droning sound that I discovered was my sub. I unplugge the unit from both my system (sheilded RCA Monster cable) and the wall outlet. I recently tested it again and the drone occurs each time I plug the unit into any wall socket (directly - no filters). The sub is still disconnected from my audio system. Any ideas? Is it 'blown'? Ruined? Fixable? Thanx for any help you can provide!! Curt |

Well, Harman-JBL, the makers of these, no longer sell the output IC for
these. If it needs one of those, you're probably out of luck. Could be a main filter cap open, though, and they're readily available. Mark Z. -- Please reply only to Group. I regret this is necessary. Viruses and spam have rendered my regular e-mail address useless. "gopackers" wrote in message ... Hello Group! The output module is probably OK; usually when they go the fuse blows and the sub is dead. There are a number of other
parts (including the filter caps) that are prone to failure because of the heat generated by the output module and some of the associated resistors. You will need a schematic to work on one of these; the markings on many of the resistors will be unreadable because they run so hot. HTH, Phread "Mark D. Zacharias" wrote in message ...
