Default noise-canceling standalone units?

I've heard about noise-canceling headphones. Do devices exist that
operate on the same general principle, but operate more like speakers
than headphones? In other words, something that could sit on the floor
or a table to dampen general noise throughout a small room?

Thanks,
Ethan
