Hi:
I hope I asking my questions the correct newsgroup. Is it true that a cassette recorded at a faster speed will have a wider frequency response, richer S/N ratio, and an overall better quality than a cassette recorded at a slower speed? I would appreciate any assistance. Please reply by email. Thanks in advance, Radium |

Sure, and there are some cassette machines that work at 3 3/4 ips instead of 1 7/8 ips to get better sound quality. Most of them are used for audio production work. Trouble is, you have to play a cassette at the same speed it was recorded, and just about all cassettes were recorded at 1 7/8 ips. |

If the machine is designed to have bias and eq settings appropriate to the higher speed, yes. Some of the 4-track "Portastudios" used cassette running at 3 1/2 ips and a non-standard 4-track format. |

The practicle limit to frequency response is ten octaves, that goes for any
format any speed. Moving more tape at a faster rate does wonders for tape saturation at higher frequencies. That's the main benifit. bg Radium wrote in message . ..
