Hello I picked up a Pioneer SX-1980 (top of the line in the 70's 270
watts/ch rms) the other day and its only partial working. The amplifier and preamp circuts are ok it will play sources from the inputs. But the tuners don't come on, and all four meters do nothing, and finaly the selection/stereo lights do not light eventhough the dial is lit. Any ideas ? I've heard these recievers have problems with the power supplies going out. If there are a couple of common failures you all could point me too I'd try replaceing a couple of diodes or resisitors to get it working but if nobody has any ideas I guess I'll have to take it to a shop if I can find anybody competent enought to do the job. I found some places on the internet that specialise in vintage gear but the shipping on this 89 lb beast would add up. I got a SX-1250 at the same time and it works fine been using it all day, pretty impressive machines IMO. |
