Default Can I safely bridge a 4 ohm load?

If the output on a stereo is rated 8 ohms per channel, would it be
possible to bridge a 4 ohm speaker across the outputs without
exceeding the amplifiers rating?

Nope. In order to bridge a 4 ohm load, each amp output has to be rated for
operation at 2 ohms or less.
