I'm definitely going to be using JL Audio subs and amps, and would like to
use a single 10W6v2 for my low end.

Nice choice, I'm using JL amps too.

So here are my sub and amp questions:

Can a JL Audio 500/1 sufficiently drive the 10W6v2?

Definitely. In fact, it's a little too much for it. Every 500/1 I've seen
will do a hair over 600 continuously. A 250/1 would be plenty, especially
for SQ.

Or, do I need to step
up to a 1000/1?

See above.


If I go with the 500/1, will I be overdriving the amp?
Underdriving the sub?

Overdriving the sub at high volumes.



Will the 10W3v2 sound better than the W6v2?

No way, the W6v.2 will slaughter it if both are set up correctly.


I would like to use video in my install, and have been looking at the
Alpine
IVA-D900. In using this multimedia station, will something like the
Alpine
PXA-H700 digital audio processor be needed?

Only if you want 5.1 playback and some eq and time alignment.


Or can the IVA-D900 serve
enough of the purpose for video?

It's perfect for a SQ video setup.


Can you really get 5.1 sound in the car?

Yep.


What else is out there that is comparable to the PXA-H700?

Pioneer's P9 Hu and processor and the Sony XES HU and processor.

When I previously competed, I dropped the car off with the installer and
then wrote the check. I now want to get my hands dirty and do it myself.
If anything, for the joy of saying I did it.
