I just heard one of these convolutive Impulse reverbs, and must say I was
really surprised about it. Of course it had to be smooth since it's based on a true ambience, but the possibilities are almost unbelievable, and I hadn't realised them before I heard it! What do you think will be the future of reverbs, and also, more precisely, the future of hardware reverb units like Lexicon's and TC works'? Soon you can get great results without any fancy DSP's, everyone can record their favorite rooms and get a fantastic, realistic sound without paying a fortune. Of course the older processing units still have the advantage of adjusting different parameters almost limitlessly, but now you don't need a super chip that multiplies the input signal 100 000 times with various phases. After all, the "smooth decay tail" always was the main factor when analyzing different reverbs, and what now when we can have a realistic tail with minimal processing? |
