Hi group i have a fair knowledge of music and want to set up a studio at
home I have a list of questions and i am not sure if this is the right forum
but here they are.
1. mac or pc
2. sonar, cool edit or pro tools
3. the best inexpensive all purpose mic or mic's
4. how to create the huge vocals ie Alan Jackson's Drive
the vocals appear very big without overiding the music
how does one achieve that effect.

Whichever works best with the software you chooose.

2. sonar, cool edit or pro tools

Why restrict yourself to those three? Get the software that lets you
do what you want, and doesn't get in your way. The only way to tell
this for sure is to try demo versions, or just buy what your intuition
tells you is best and accept that you may have made a mistake. Don't
fight it.

3. the best inexpensive all purpose mic or mic's

No such thing, but there are many mics that will work in a lot of
applications. The favorite answers here seem to be Shure SM57 and
EV 635, but it all depends on what you consider inexpensive. To many
people, a $700 Neumann TLM103 is inexpensive because it will do most
of what a U87 costing three times as much will do, for their
applications.

4. how to create the huge vocals ie Alan Jackson's Drive

Hire Alan Jackson to do your vocals, and get a really good studio and
engineer to record him.

Sorry, but the answers to your questions are all within yourself. You
just have to go get something that works and experiment with it for a
few years.

Take it from an EV 635 owner, he wants an EV 635a. g

Besides being a good omni dynamic, it's the only mic in your box that
you can use as a hammer!

Jeff-

What applications do you use the 635a for? I tried to gain some more
info on it for fun but couldn't find any. Thanks

Will
