Hello everyone. I thought i'd take a sec to introduce myself to the group.
I'm a twenty-something guy in Vancouver, BC, canada and have been doing various sound-related applications and jobs for about six years or so. I am shop manager at a medium sized sound and lighting production and rental house in town, which allows me the opportunity to try out various equipment as it comes in from our suppliers, which i should say is quite a nice side benefit. I am also a (somewhat serious) musician and recording hobbyist, with a very small collection of recording gear. My gear is as follows: ADAT blackface, DBX 168A dynamics processor, Alesis Quadraverb 2, Behringer MDX4600 Quad compressor/gate, one AKG C535, one AKG D112, three SM58, Behringer UB1202 mixer. As you can see, my collection is far from ideal, so at any time if anyone in this group is looking to sell off medium to high-end microphones, processing, or especially a decent 16+ channel mixing board, please feel free to give me a shout. Thanks all, Josh Cudmore, Vancouver, BC |

So how serious are you in wanting to go with your equipment? If you want to go to higher end pro gear (I'd say you have mostly low end pro-sumer gear) you can keep the ADAT (maybe someone will come to you with something they want re-mixed), you may find some use for it. The D112 is an ok kick drum mic and I'm not up on the C535. I've had some very bad luck with Alesis gear so I don't plan on getting any more of that brand name. There are lots of things good and fair going around in here, you'll just have to come in here most every day to see what you can find. I've seen some realy good deals on any one piece of gear and I've seen some unbeliveable deals on whole systems to. Welcome to the group |

Thanks for the tip, but effects aren't really at the top of my list at the
moment. I'm relatively happy with my Quadraverb 2 based on the rest of the gear i have, so adding another older FX unit at this time doesn't seem all that beneficial. What i am most interested in finding is new (to me) compressors, mics, and a mixing board. But thanks again for your prompt suggestion. Yeah, but what I think some are saying is that new, even "to you", equipment
isn't necessarily the answer. I keep saying that one has to simply equate the desire to purchase something with the need to purchase something. If you can't define a need, you don't have a need. If you've gone as far as your available technology can take you, then you actually should be able to have some killer stuff. Like I've said before, it's not the fool's tools, it's the tool's fool. Consistency is the quest, equipment is a means. Believe it or not, that's about the best advice I can give you. Whether you grasp it now or later or never at all doesn't change the advice. And if you're willing to understand that, then I think you'll fit right in. So Hello Josh, and welcome. -- Roger W.
