how do you determine if a sub can run at 1ohm
It's not whether it "can" run at one ohm. That question would better fit on the power end, as in "how do you determine if an amp can run at 1 ohm?" Your sub has its resistance as measured in ohm somewhere if not in multiple locations: the box, the magnet, the instructions etc. If you have none of this info, then put an ohm meter on the + and - terminals. If the speaker isn't damaged, the meter should show a reading somewhere close to it's rated resistance. Now if your sub is dual coil, which is to say you have 2 sets of + and -, and each of these has seperate leads running to a coil, you can attain a lower resistance by running the 2 coils in parallele to one another, which is to say you would tie the two + together and connect them to a speaker wire, and tie the two - together and run them to the other conductor in your speaker wire set. This would halve the value of the seperate coils, so if you had a dual two ohm coil speaker, and you ran the two coils in parallel, then yes, you could use that speaker to show a 1 ohm load to the amplifier. www.MAINSTREET-AUDIO.com ~ ~ ~ Where SERVICE never goes out of style ~ ~ ~ V I S I T O U R F O R U M http://63.74.14.174/forum/phpBB2/index.php |
