Hi, I've been using Logic for some years but never with MIDI.
I've just got hold of a Yamaha DTXPRESS drum machine and want to now record in MIDI. I've connected it to my PC using the midi in/out cables (the round 5 pin cables) and can record and playback fine. My problem is that the sounds I hear back are either piano or whatever and not my required cymbal/snare etc sounds. I've been through the manual, which I find a bit mind boggling and have been trying to set up a mapped instrument for this purpose. Each pad fires different notes, and by default they are set to the incorrect noises I want to hear. For example, when I hit the snare pad, I hear a triangle or something equally useless. I've found by messing about that if I change the "output note" I can achieve the correct drum noise I want to hear. I guess I'm rerouting the note so when I hit a snare pad, the note assigned to snare also fires, and I hear my correct noise. (Hope I explained that 0K). All was going fine using this method and by rerouting each pad I've created a drum kit that works... Except the ride cymbal!! When I strike this pad, I hear a crash cymbal, no matter what I reroute the note to (by changing the "output note") all I get is a crash cymbal. This method seems to work for all the other drum pads except the ride!!!! Seems very weird. I suppose my question is why doesn't my snare want to be rerouted? I also have the question, "Am I going about this completely the wrong way??" in the back of my head. I'm not that technical so any advice, please make it easy to understand - thanks!! Any help offered is greatly recieved!!!! Many thanks Paul. |
