Default 2 channel A/D and D/A for < $1000??

I am trying to get pro or near pro recording quality in my home studio. If I
get a dedicated converter, will I really hear any difference especially
considering a) I am recording electric guitar and b) my mics are shure sm57,
sennhesier md421 and c) mic preamp is RNP.

I really don't want to get a dedicated converter. I want to get an RME
Multiface. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Have a look at M-Audio's Flying Cow. It's a wonderful bargain.
