Default Need Nagra SN reels and adapters

Hi folks,
I recently picked up a Nagra SNN pocket reel recorder that I'm fixing
up (a couple of issues with the electronic boards). I'd like to get a
few reels for it, if anyone might have some kicking around please let
me know. The other thing I'd really like to find are the adapters
that allowed playing SN 1/8" tape reels on a 1/4" machine, such as the
ones shown on these photos:

If you might know of a source for these (I assume there are some
sitting on a shelf or in a drawer somewhere) please let me know.

Thanks a lot.

As far as I know, all of those were one-off custom jobs. The ones in those
photos were made by Dave Lane at Richmond Film Services. I believe Saul
Mineroff in Valley Stream NY also used to make them. Both of those guys
died nearly a decade ago.

It would not be too hard to make your own with a small bench lathe. The
real worry is that you're going to be putting very uneven wear on a full-track
head.

You could try Richmond Film Services, if they have anyone left who might
be able to identify any that could be left over. You could always try
Dan Dugan as well.

For all of the standard Nagra parts, Nagra pretty much stocks them all today,
so things like the SN reels you can still buy brand new from them. Be
prepared to pay big money though.

Hi Scott, as always, you're a fountain of information! Thanks, I'll
contact Richmond and Dan in case they may have something kicking
around.

Someone told me Nagra can still manufacture a SNSTR on special order
(I was told $10K which sounds outlandish!), so they probably do still
have the reels for them. I'll drop them a line just for the heck of
it.

Yeah, if someone was going to play back hundreds of reels of 1/8" tape
on 1/4" heads, I'd be concerned too about uneven wear. But in all
likelihood, this is something I would not do that often. Remains to
be seen whether I can resuscitate this SNN, and how much I'll actually
use it once I do.

I also thought about maybe checking if I could jury-rig something to
play those SN tapes in a mono Uher 4000 I've got kicking around
somewhere.

Regards,
--Robert
