The sony's are rated to 45 watts and are 10 years old, they actually sound
great.
The Kenwoods are rated at 20 watts rms 60 peak so they fall right were I
would think they should but sound terrible, with no bass. I almost suspect
they've been subject to excessive power.
I will go to the local Circuit city/ tweeter and listen to some infinity's
and others that may fit before I buy some new speakers.
Any recommendations in a 4 x 6??

Bass blockers would likely help, but if you're getting that much
distortion, either the speakers are frelled, or you're trying to drive
them too hard off the 9807's output. If you can swing a buck or two, you
should be able to get a decent two channel amp with built-in crossover
to power them.

The power ratings on a speaker have jack to do with how they'll sound,
and quite honestly, it has jack to do with how much power they can
actually take.

If they sounded that horrible, then they were either very cheap
kenwoods, or they weren't installed properly (if there was no bass, then
I'm willing to bet they were out of phase).

You misunderstood my question. How do you know that lack of power from the
head unit isn't the culprit?
