Why not replace the power supplys or have them rebuilt?

So, fix the power supplies.

These things are old. They're built with cheap electrolytics. over
the years, they dry out and fail. Just fix it. They're easy to work on.

This reminds me of a guy I know who kept buying dozens of compact flash
cards for his digital camera because he didn't realize you could erase
them.

You need to find a repair tech.

Rob R.

i've only had problems with the 9 module frame. i have the 2 module
version in the B room and it seems fine.

for the sake of completion, i'll also include the particular modules
in the frame:

4x 902 de-essers
2x 903 comps
2x 904 gates
1x 929 noise reduction

i'll try to convince my tech to really give it a shot, i'm not sure
why he couldn't fix it the first time around. he's generally really
good. -tE

If it's not the caps in the power supply, it's highly possible you might have a
bad module in the rack. I knew a guy who kept blowing out the PS on his API
rack only to find out that one of the 550's had an intermittant short or
something.

Time to call Stan Jacox. Or send them to Dorsey, or to Morse. ,g

guy - thanks but i have several techs working here every day. you
can't maintain this much vintage gear without some help. my lead guy
is Jack Crymes. some of you must know him. he worked for the record
plant in the late 60s and 70s, and has been in the bay area since.
he's best known for having built and run their recording trucks. i
know Stan Jacox as well. in fact i just got back from his place 5
minutes ago! these are not inexpensive folks to work with. jack is
incredibly reasonable at $65 per hour. stan is moving to russian in
just a couple days. but in any case i've found it's sometimes a waste
of money to keep fixing old **** if you can replace it cheaply. jack
has spent a couple ours on this puppy already and it's still flakey --
i could have found another one for that amount of money.

ah - i just realized that my post might have been misinterpreted. i
didn't buy a second unit to replace the first one that died. i
happened to have 2 because i have 4 control rooms here and both of
them have flaked out. sorry for the confusion.

Unless it's a bad module in the rack and then it's jhust a matter of
time until the new one blows, too.

You've got good help, but maybe they're looking in the wrong place. Just
a possibility; I won't pretend that a dumbass guitar player like me is
going to diagnose this over the 'net. g

If you bought the Digi 192 with a credit card that doubles the
warranty, then you can get it fixed or replaced for free.

One of my son's ipods recently stopped working. Both my kids use the
hell outta their ipods. It was the special rechargeable battery which I
was gonna replace from a 3rd party site, Apple doesn;t sell them, when
I remembered buying it with a cc that doubled the warranty.

After going thru the filling out forms stuff, my son's gonna end up
with a new second generation ipod with double the hard drive space.
Won't cost me a cent. Sure put a smile on his face!
