I have a good amount of good quality tube pres and amps and the last 2 times
I bought tubes from JJ's they lasted literally for weeks and went bad. I'm
done with JJ's tubes. Where do you guys go for quality tubes these days? Can
you even get quality tubes anymore?

Thanks,

Neil R

I have used JJ tubes for years and never had any problems. What failed on
them, and are the preamps running within normal levels? If you have leaky
caps screwing the bias levels up, any tube may be damaged.

Also... who did you buy them from? There is a lot of Chinese crap out there,
mostly relabelled as NOS American and British product but some of it may well
be relabelled as JJ stuff.

What kind of tubes do you need? 12AX7s are easy to find, EF804s not so easy.

Hi Neil,

A few years ago I had two Fender amps recapped. I thought new glass would be
nice so I reached out to Groove Tubes owner Aspen Pittman. He chose the
specific tubes based on how I wanted the amp to sound; gritty, original or
super clean.

I got the Originals. The amps have never sounded better. I forgot how good
they can sound. Pre-CBS Vibrolux and SUper Reverb.

Regards,

Ty Ford

So, what was the story? What tubes failed, in what?

Sorry Scott, just returned home from a week in NY and wasn't able to get
newsreader to work on my parents archaic computer - so I'm just getting up
to speed on this thread. Don't remember specifically which type of tubes
failed quickly in my Peavey VMP-2 and my Fender HR Deluxe (modded) but will
open up soon and report back.
