I have been transferring some DAT tapes to CDR. A problem has arisen
recently, wonder if anyone on this NG has seen this before, knows a cause or a solution. The machine is a Sony PCM-R-300 - it stops by itself. At first I only noticed it when recording, and thought it was the tape. Lately it has done it when playing back a tape made on another machine. I know there are compatibility issues with DATs, but this one seems more like a hardware problem. Just before stopping, there was momentary severe audio distortion, sounded like bad artifacting or the kind of sound that happens when playing 44.1 on the DAT and feeding into 48k sampling, only much worse. As I was copying to the PC at the time, I saved that example and will burn to a CD later in case I need to demo for a repairman. I am suspecting a power supply issue, but wonder if anyone else has experienced this and what, if any, solution they found. I played the same tape again at the same spot, of course, it played through perfectly. -- Joe Salerno Video Works! Is it working for you?
