Sony DAT repair
Hi
I'm looking for a good repair service in the NYC/Long Island area I have a sony DAT deck - it has 3 problems - the open/close button does not work (needs to be opened with the remote) - not a big issue for me - so if its a problem, I can live with it. - loading and unloading is sporadic (sometimes it will load fine, other times it will accept the tape, but no functions work, and the unit needs to be power cycled before I can eject the tape - when it does play - the sound will often distort (as though the heads were not aligned) - naturally i can buy a used unit for under 200 - so putting a lot of money into a repair seems foolish - but i would like to get it working so I can at least play the tapes I've made thanks Bill |

That determines whether parts are available and whether Sony service is still available. I gather it's been a long time since your deck has seen an annual alignment? --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |

I guess he's still in business. Contact John French through the JRF Magnetics web site http://jrfmagnetics.com/ and ask about it. I think the DAT guy either shares space with JRF or they're very close by. naturally i can buy a used unit for under 200 - so putting a lot of money into a repair seems foolish - but i would like to get it working so I can at least play the tapes I've made It would probably be cheaper for you to buy a used, working DAT than to have yours repaired. -- If you e-mail me and it bounces, use your secret decoder ring and reach me he double-m-eleven-double-zero at yahoo -- I'm really Mike Rivers ) |

The DAT repair is in Pennsylvania and they have been there for a while now: http://www.nxtgentech.com/ I wonder how busy John is these days ... He is one of the nicest guys I have ever done business with in the wide world of Pro Audio. David Correia www.Celebrationsound.com |

They do nice work on HHb machines, they won't touch Sony machines with half-size head drums. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |
