Default Question about functional insanity

Does craziness invariably affect long-term memory?

It appears to me that the Krooborg has lost touch with his earlier not-crazy
self completely. Lately, he also appears to be irremediably distanced from
his half-crazy-yet-functional self. As a sane person, I can recall how I
felt at various times of my life, and in various situations. Does going mad
destroy the ability to recall feelings?
