But MAN could he play! |

But MAN could he play! Richard Thompson's first finger helps hold a pick, but I'd guess he's not the first to do so. I have a lot of respect for Don LaFontaine. I posted link to this short from his website. Here it is again on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQRtuxdfQHw Stephen |

Glen Campbell also uses that technique. Jerry was the only player known to me who used a thumbpick and fingers 2-4 ("the claw"), leaving the first finger out completely. Also, the hybrid pickers that I know (like Thompson and Campbell) aren't really solo players like Jerry was. I have a lot of respect for Don LaFontaine. I posted link to this short from his website. Here it is again on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQRtuxdfQHw Funny! LaFontaine may well be the most heard speaking voice of all time (probably not including political figures). Kind of the Carol Kaye or Stevie Gadd of voices ;-) |

The last time that I looked at such things in the job books at the L.A. union office, I was astounded at Gadd's credits. In his case, it's not only the astounding recording credits: http://www.drstevegadd.com/discography.htm and live concerts that I think make him the most heard, but also big-time TV, movies, and commercials. |

He's no Hal Blaine. :-) http://www.drstevegadd.com/history.htm I like the nod to Tony Williams; I've been listening to Nefertiti lately. King Crimson fans will be shocked by the Tony Levin at Eastman photo, purists offended by the Michel Petrucciani Shreds YouTube found elsewhere.
