Unusual Mystery Tube
Hi:
I came across a strange, unknown tube. Here's a photo: http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ye123/tube.jpg On the bottom of the base it has the usual "licensed only to extent indicated on carton". There are no pins, just the two leads coming out the side of the base. As can be seen in the photo the letters/numbers "AP-1337-C" are printed on the base. Also, printed on the base are some much smaller numbers "147" over "?-2" (the glue covers the question mark character). Is this a home-made tube, an experimental tube or just a bad repair job? Any idea of what kind of tube it is? Thanks. Gerry |

Looks to be a phototube. I've seen a few of them with the flying lead
connections before... Bob Weiss N2IXK GerryE123 wrote: Hi: I came across a strange, unknown tube. "GerryE123" I came across a strange, unknown tube. Here's a photo: http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ye123/tube.jpg Any idea of what kind of tube it is? ** Definitely looks like a " phototube " - you can Google the term for more info. Some were made with inert gas inside while others had a hard vacuum - were once widely used as optical sensors and also in the sound heads of film projectors. I recall seeing one used as a slave flash trigger device for professional photography. Now been replaced by photo-resistors, ( ie CdS cells ) photo-transistors, photo-diodes and small solar cells. ...... Phil |
