Recently purchased the estate of a jazz and blues 78 collector- we now
own a very rare "Mouse Trap" phono preamp/equalizer. Also known as "The Front End". This is a very high end unit that provides proper eq and filtering for all the different pre-1955 record equalization curves. It allow for the proper freq. balance and response when playing and/or recording these early recordings. These are used by any studio that specializes in the restoration and reissuing of old 78s and pre-1955 LPs. Hand built by U.K. recording engineer Ted Kendall this is an essential piece of gear for any serious 78 collector. I could not find out much on the net but did find one article dated 2006 that gave the cost of putting together a complete studio for this purpose-- that article put its value at the time at 4,500 GB Pounds- almost $9K by today's exchange rate.. Kevin at KAB Electroacoustics in New Jersey told me that only about 3 dozen were built and he knew of only one other in the USA. Any interest please e- mail to: or call 215-630-6585. Phila, PA area. |
