The VOX Valvetronix
Hi all
The VOX Valvetronix has a switch tha makes the amp to sound "like" a specific model , you chose one that you like . How electronically this function is done . How you make a tube amp to sound like another in terms of circuity . I tried to google this amp schematic w/o success , does any one knows where to find this amp schematic ? Thanks EC |

The VOX Valvetronix
The amp itself is a generic solid state one. The active part of the setup
is a DSP system that strives to emulate the sounds of various guitar amp and speaker combos through software that "models" the filtering, compression, and distortion of various commercial units. That software, or firmware, is contained in ROM or in FPGAs. That's the part that is proprietary, although lots of different variants exist. The question is, "Does it work?" Answer; after a fashion. -- Message posted using http://www.talkaboutaudio.com/group/rec.audio.tubes/ More information at http://www.talkaboutaudio.com/faq.html |

It uses DSP (digital signal processing) methods to intentionally 'copy' or 'minic' the distortion characteristics of well known models I tried to google this amp schematic w/o success , does any one knows where to find this amp schematic ? You wouldn't learn anything from it. The clever stuff is all in the software (i.e in an EPROM or even 'burnt in' to the DSP CPU). Graham (occasional DSP software author). |

Unfortunately not, because part of it looks quite interesting. From what I can gather, it is a valve/SS hybrid. FX are DSP, but valves are used to mimic the valve stages of classic amps. One for pre-amp distortion, and one or two (not clear from the description) driving a simulated load for output stage distortion. Ian |

The primary purpose of the valves is marketing. Using them for sonic
modification purposes would make subsequent DSP more challenging. -- Message posted using http://www.talkaboutaudio.com/group/rec.audio.tubes/ More information at http://www.talkaboutaudio.com/faq.html |

Have you looked? Why, exactly, does it make the DSP more challenging? And why is that a reason anyway? Ian |
