mac and fireface
i have a fireface400 and that's a long time i want to buy myself a
macbook so i can record and work outdoors. the problem is that i noticed (in apple and rme forum) that the latest macs has a firewire issue interfacing with rme fireface series. does anyone can tell what he knows about it? is there a solution cmming up? any workaround? is it the end between rme fireface users to macbooks? |

There is probably not a solution coming up soon, because Apple is not really considering it critical. is it the end between rme fireface users to macbooks? It's not just the RME fireface... a lot of interfaces are having trouble with the Mac firewire chipset. And it's a chipset that some PC motherboards have used also. Buy an older Mac and you'll be fine. They are rugged and last a good while. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |

I must confess I had to send the first one back but now the one i have is working, I'm really happy with it. With the rack ears removed, it's small enough to go in my backpack, the 4 pre-amps are good and it works fine with my macbook pro. David |

I sometimes consider a laptop for my own home studio needs, since modern laptops have gained so much performance in the latter years. Most importantly, I would read tests about performance, heat issues and search the net for reports about durability. Resently, laptops are being build with lowpower multicore cpu's, so the power might be there. *The most resent ones can now take 8GB ram. Modern 2½" laptop harddrives are getting quite fast and large. I would consider using an external firewire drive for my audio files. I haven't checked those claims about firewire problems in Mac laptops; if it's trus, shame, as I'd prefer using a Mac with Logic Studio. I'd like comments about using laptops for recording *and* processing. -- Kind regards, Mogens V. The power requirements for recording are minimal. See my other post for an example. If realtime processing is not required, and there is seldom a need for it, the requirements are minimal also. Bob Morein (310) 237-6511-הסתר טקסט מצוטט- -הראה טקסט מצוטט- well ' the battary can supply between 2-5 hours of outdoors uses, it depends on the company and this feature is specify in every laptop . i'm so dissapointed that mac dont take the firface issue as they should . mogens you can visit RME furom ad you'll see everthing you need to know. |

I'll make another one.. -- Kind regards, Mogens V. |
